Adaptive Adventures is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 1999 to provide progressive outdoor sports opportunities to improve quality of life for children, adults and veterans with physical disabilities and their families. Adaptive Adventures provides opportunities in cycling, climbing, kayaking, paddleboarding, skiing, waterskiing, dragon boat racing, rafting, scuba and sailing. Adaptive Adventures Dragon Boat Teams have been growing in size and success for the past several years, including owning the USA Dragon Boat Club Champion Title. Our Denver based team has consistently finished within the top ranks nationally, with several medals in hand against able body teams. We once joked against an elite 'able bodied' team that we managed to podium against, that we are " 'standing here with all our 68 limbs and 20 heartbeats ahead of you (out of 80 possible- 20 people per boat)." Everyone laughed.. and they began to train harder.

We are Team Blue! Much of our competition has years more experience, and no disabilities present, but none with more heart and drive than Team Blue! Our Chicago based Disabled Veteran Team enters 2017 with a new training location in the heart of Chicago, on the Chicago River. Team Chicago has medalled in the Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival and USA Dragon Boat National Club Championships for the 4th out of 5 years at the event. Our Racine Team, partnered with Racine Dragonboat Club is a machine, having medaled in every race they've entered in the past 2 years.

Our newest team, based in Colorado Springs has begun to turn more heads within the Colorado and National scene, which began late in 2016. Dragon Boat racing creates an inclusive environment where people of all fitness levels and abilities can unite as a team and have fun! It focuses on working as a team to achieve one common goal, the finish line. Outside of competitions, Dragon Boat teams provide a community where you can find commitment, encouragement, and support. We provide the instruction, gear, boat, plenty of enthusiasm, and a community of participants and volunteers to create a team like no other.
